From Mount Everest to the deep oceans, microplastic wastes are being dumped by humans. These dumped microplastics are often eaten by marine organisms. The karma part is when these dumped wastes are also being returned to the human body who feeds on marine organisms.
Now it has been discovered how microplastics can adversely affect the human body. Frequent experiments in labs have shown that microplastics can cause damage to human cells.
Microplastics that enter the human body can damage cell walls, inactivate cells and cause allergies.
Evangelos Danopoulos, a researcher at Hull York medical school, said the issue was serious and also added that the chances of reversal from this crisis are limited.
The study also found that these microplastics that enter the human body can cause more harm if the body takes more time to expel them.
The researchers also analyzed previous studies on how microplastics can be harmful to the cells in the human body.
The vast majority of these plastics have been formed to enter the human body through seafood, drinking water, and table salt. These damages the cell walls and cause cell death and allergies.
This is more like humans digging up their own graves. All we could do now is to reduce the usage of plastics and move on to more eco-friendly products that would save both the human species and other organisms.
